Sopranos Fellowship Makan 
The Sopranos hosted the Oct Makan session and prepared a wonderful spread of delicious food for all of us! They also invited Fr Chris to give a short and meaningful sharing on "The meaning of Christmas Carolling" as we prepare for carolling in December. Thank you Sops!

SMC X'mas Party!
As usual, we had a lot more food than we could finish, and the pot luck party ended up as a taupau party. Anyway, we had loads of fun, especially with our special guests - the friends and family members of our choir members, and even some familiar faces from long time ago!

Goodbye Betty & Lynette

Our choir conducted a retreat themed "Spirituality of the Music Ministy - How shall I sing to God" at KC Secondary School on 15 Sep 07 followed by a BBQ at The Bayshore. A big thanks to Sr Mel from the Cenacle Sisters for being our retreat master that day.

JL Fernandez's passing
Our brother Fernandez returned to the Lord on 22 Jul 07 (Sun). Our prayers are with him and his family. May he rest in peace.

A New SMC Executive Committee
St. Mary's Choir held its annual Annual General Meeting on the 3rd Sunday of February 2006. A new committee of 11 led by Chairperson Alywin and Vice Chairperson Emma has been elected to serve the choir and the church.

"Movie Night" - SMC Annual Dinner & Dance
St. Mary's Choir spent Saturday night partying away at Changi Village Hotel! There were also special guest appearances by Jedi Knights, Yoda, Chun Li (from Street Fighter), Mao Zedong, Whoopi Goldberg, a Cabaret dancer dressed in blue and actresses from the set of "In the Mood for Love".

Bringing the Joy of Christmas into your homes
St. Mary's Choir had the opportunity to carol at parishioners' homes, an old folks home as well as sing for the HFC Christmas Midnight Mass (with GII) this year. Priestly Ordination of Deacon Christopher Lee
This joyous event was held at Church of Our Lady Star of the Sea on Sunday, 28 August 05. Congrats Fr Christopher! We're glad to have you serving at HFC after your ordination.

Choir Day of Recollection (DOR) 2005
This year's retreat themed "A Working & Praying Community" was held at CHIJ (Katong) Primary School. We were fortunate to have Sister Florence from the Franciscan Missionaries of the Divine Motherhood (FMDM) as our retreat facilitator.

Double Ordination at Holy Family Church
Deacons Valerian Cheong and Damien de Wind were ordained priests by Archbishop Nicholas Chia at an elaborate celebration from 5.30pm - 7.30pm. We're glad to be part of the combined choir for this rare and special occasion. Congrats Fr Valerian & Fr Damien! (click on the thumbnail pic to view larger pic). More Photos at HFC website.

We have a new Pope!
German cardinal Joseph Ratzinger is the 265th pontiff, Benedict XVI. The 78 years old pontiff was elected when the conclave voted for the 4th time. Our new pope was Pope John Paul II's chief theological adviser for 20 years. In the Vatican, he has been the driving force behind crackdowns on liberation theology, religious pluralism, challenges to traditional moral teachings on issues such as homosexuality, and dissent on such issues as women's ordination.

Conclave & Election for the new Pope
115 Cardinals are readying themselves for the Papal Conclave which will begin on 18 Apr 05. A two-thirds majority is needed for an elect to become the 264th successor to the first pope, St. Peter and to lead the 1.1 billion-member Church. Let's all pray that the Holy Spirit may guide these "Princes of the Church" in finding us a new Pope. Stayed tuned to your TV sets and watch out for that simple puff of smoke from the Sistine chimney - black smoke for an inconclusive vote and white smoke to signify that a new pope has been chosen.

Youth Confirmation Mass
St. Mary's Choir sang for the Rite of Confirmation (celebrated by His Grace, Archbishop Nicholas Chia) for about 100 teenagers from the HFC parish. We would like to congratulate all confirmants as well as thank the GII members who joined us for the Sunday practices and sang with us at Mass.

St. Mary's Choir Passover Meal
Gathering in a little room at Emmaus Centre, we were reminded of the origins of the passover meal, a great feast of sacrifice, of deliverance and of thanksgiving. As God sent Moses to rescue the Israelites from captivity in Egypt, so He lovingly sent His Son to redeem fallen man from slavery to sin.

Carolling 2004
Our choir will be taking on a maximum of 4 carolling engagements this X'mas. Choir members who have put in at least 16 hours of carolling practices will be included as part of the carolling group automatically. Those who do not hit this target but still wish to carol will be auditioned by Paula, Ben and Joanna. They can still join in if they meet the minimum standards (don't worry... the minimum isn't perfection.)

The Passing of a Choir Member - Richard Goh
Richard was called home to be with the Lord on 11 June 2004 at age 72.

Thanks to all who were at his funeral, to send him off in song, as well as those who attended his wake and those who said a prayer for him.

We will always remember the young at heart Richard, our "bikerboy" and fellow tenor...

Do continue to keep Richard in your prayers.
